Notts Outlaws vs Durham report- Munsey makes Durham batters pay the price

Well beaten in each of their first three North Group matches, Notts were miserly with the ball in restricting Durham to 156 for eight and opener Munsey’s first big contribution in the competition meant they were always comfortably ahead in the chase.

The 33-year-old left-hander, capped 165 times for his country, hit three sixes and nine fours in a 52-ball knock, backed up by Freddie McCann’s 32 from 33 balls.

Olly Stone, Mohammad Ali and George Linde took two wickets each in a Durham innings that never found any sustained momentum, Will Rhodes top scoring with 38 from 32 balls after Ollie Robinson had made 36 from 27.

Head coach Ryan Campbell said: “It’s very disappointing. We came here wanting to bounce back after losing to Yorkshire, but unfortunately our powerplay was horrible again. You're not going to win games of cricket if you’re four down in the powerplay.

“I thought we scrambled to get us to something. But Munsey took it away from us, he batted nicely and didn't give us a chance.

“It was a good pitch but there was some bounce in there that initially you just had to get used to and I think a couple of our blokes didn't give themselves a chance to get used to it.

“At the end of the day, hats off to Notts. They bowled and batted brilliantly.  But for us, we need to go back to the drawing board.  We started the comp well and then lost the last couple of games. We know that we're far from a perfect team, but we pride ourselves on putting in performances every time we play. Unfortunately these last two haven't been up to our standards.

“But it’s not a train wreck, that’s for sure. A poor couple of games doesn’t mean you’re out of the competition.  We know that with our batters, when they're playing well, we can dominate teams.  We're going to have some time off, but then we're back in on Wednesday and we'll work hard and be ready for Northants on Saturday.”
