Derbyshire vs Durham report- Durham open T20 Blast campaign with narrow victory

Montgomery’s unbeaten 74 from 45 balls looked to have won it but Matthew Potts held his nerve in a dramatic final over to get Durham over the line.

Chasing 204, the Falcons fell just short on 197/8 with Potts bowling three dot balls to close the game out.

Durham’s 203 for 8 was built around 54 off 28 balls from Lees and Ollie Robinson’s 48 from 24.

Reacting to victory in the opening game, Ryan Campbell said: ""It was a great game of cricket and that's what we need. People coming out on a Friday night, two good teams going at it, that's this competition, anyone can beat anyone. 

"On a different day, they get over the line there. I thought Montgomery was fantastic but then I thought Potts was unbelievable in the last three, four balls because he nailed his yorkers, he had the courage to nail his go-to ball.

"It all came down to the last over and I think if you're a Derbyshire fan you think you're going to win after the first two balls, if you're a Durham fan you're hanging on the edge of your seat and then Matthew delivers what we know he can deliver."
