Durham's red ball season has been akin to an old car coming out of the garage, new additions make you think there should be some improvement but after a while the car needs some more work.
We're midway through the afternoon session of the Surrey home game as this post is being written and yes, there is a realistic possibility that you could be reading it with the team in the relegation zone.
Last year marked a solid return to the top tier, with a fifth place finish secured, but it looks like it's going to be a tall order to improve on that this time around.
Following the Surrey game, Durham have the easier games on paper, with fixtures against Essex, Worcestershire and Yorkshire to come, but the pressure brought by playing the teams around you can flip everything on its head.
