South North prepare for the 'highlight of any one year' as Durham return

Durham will be trading Chester-le-Street for Gosforth as they return to South North for the 10th time.

It's that time of year once again, the crisp-packet sponsored franchise competition takes over for a month, but it also heralds the return of what has become one of the most coveted parts of the county calendar.

Yes, Metro Bank fever is back and so is the annual North East cricket pilgrimage to South Northumberland Cricket Club as Durham host Sussex in their Metro Bank One Day Cup opener.

I can hear the murmurs of 'it's not in County Durham' in the background, but the only home game that the men's first team play away from DH3 has become a part of the calendar that fans look out for when the fixtures are released each year.

Duncan Stephen, historian and match reporter for South North told The Chester that it's one of the best moments of the year for the club.
