Unsurprisingly with all the speculation surrounding Stokes’ role as England captain, journalists and photographers from far and wide flocked to watch a County Championship Division Two clash that would usually only appeal to hardcore viewers of the county game.

Despite its significance as a top of the table clash between Durham and Northamptonshire, the action on field during the first day was overshadowed by Stokes’ presence.
