When the England squad was announced this week, there was a notable absentee from the Durham contingent aiming to force their way in and that was Matthew Potts.

Potts has taken 24 wickets so far this season at the time of writing, just five shy of his tally for the whole of 2025, and is unlucky to have missed out given that the current England set-up have a habit of backing players to the hilt. You only need to look at the likes of Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley, who were walking wickets for some time before they got dropped.
