For many sports teams, there are bad omens and ‘bogey teams’, but for some there’s a particular round of fixtures that they just can’t seem to crack.

Are your team always finishing the season with a whimper? Do they always tend to have a mid-season slump?

Well for Durham, a poor opening game is often on the menu, even when they romped to the Division Two title in 2023, they lost in the season’s premiere.

However, this is indeed a case of the first game blues as it goes deeper than that, their last opening day success came in 2015, when Durham nabbed a rare win at Taunton, thanks largely to Paul Collingwood.
